Adobe Illustrator is a software application for artists and designers who create and modify scalable vector graphics. Adobe Illustrator was released by Adobe in January 1987 as a vector graphics editor for the Apple Macintosh and the LaserWriter printer. The first version available to the general public was released on March 19, 1987. Adobe created Illustrator to utilize the PostScript language for smooth, scalable geometric curves. It grew out of Adobe's in-house development software and PostScript drawing language and format. It started the era of digital desktop design. Early versions introduced the Bézier pen tool, letting designers draw precise paths that could resize without losing quality.
